What is Activon Manuka Honey?
Activon Manuka Honey is a medical grade manuka honey that can be used to debride (remove unhealthy tissue) a wound to assist the healing process. It is made from nectar gathered by bees from Leptospermum plants in New Zealand. Activon Manuka Honey is a natural anti-microbial with no known resistance. Activon Manuka Honey eliminates odours and provides a moist healing environment to promote faster healing.
What is Activon Manuka Honey used for?
Activon Manuka Honey provides wound healing benefits that are not found in other types of wound dressings. Activon Manuka Honey can be used to debride (remove dead tissue) and deslough (removing the white or yellow tissue covering the base of a wound) which can speed up the healing process of severe or deep wounds. How does Activon Manuka Honey Work?
Activon Manuka Honey works by removing slough which is a build up of necrotic (dead) tissue that can slow down the healing process of a wound- this is known as de-sloughing. Activon Manuka Honey achieves this de-sloughing action by promoting a process known as autolytic debridement. This is where the body uses its own enzymes and moisture to rehydrate, soften and liquefy dead tissue in order to heal a wound. Activon Manuka Honey also creates a hostile environment for slough production, preventing further build ups of dead tissue. Activon Manuka Honey only targets the necrotic tissue so is safe for the surrounding healthy skin surrounding the wound.
How to use Activon Manuka Honey.
Twist off the Activon Manuka Honey tube cap. Apply directly to the wound. If the wound produces a lot of exudate (a protein rich fluid that can ooze from open wounds) dress it with an absorbent bandage or dressing after applying Activon Manuka Honey. A thin film dressing can be applied to wounds that do not produce a lot of exudate. Using a dressing will help protect the wound and ensure the Activon Manuka Honey remains in the wound.
When NOT to use Activon Manuka Honey
Do NOT use Activon Manuka Honey if you are allergic to bee venom.
Although Activon Manuka Honey is not absorbed into the bloodstream, if you are a diabetic it is recommended that you seek advice from your doctor or a Chemist 4 U pharmacist before using this product.
Warnings
Discomfort can occasionally be experienced when Activon Manuka Honey is initially applied to a wound, but this should wear off after application. If discomfort continues, discontinue use, flush the wound with saline solution and seek medical advice from your doctor or a Chemist 4 U pharmacist.
Storage
Store Activon Manuka Honey at room temperature. Honey can solidify at cold temperatures and become thinner and runnier in warm temperatures. If the product has solidified, warm between hands to soften before use. If Activon Manuka Honey has become too runny, place in a cooler environment such as a fridge for a few minutes.
